Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA -The Alaska Aces have announced that defenseman Brandon Martell will join the club off after being acquired from the Wichita Thunder for cash considerations.

Aces President of Hockey Operations and Head Coach Rob Murray made the announcement Monday.

A native of Andover, Minnesota, the 6-foot-3, 210-pound defenseman played in 17 games last season for the Rapid City Rush before being traded to the Evansville IceMen in December. After playing a four-year career at the Ohio State University (NCAA DI), Martell played three games in 2012-13 with the Kalamazoo Wings. Overall, he's appeared in 125 games in the ECHL collecting 28 points (12g, 16a) and 75 penalty minutes. The former Buckeye received Academic All-Big Ten honors twice during his time at Ohio State.

"With the injuries we've had lately with our defenseman, we needed someone who could step right in and contribute," said Murray. "Brandon brings ECHL experience, and that's valuable".

The Aces lost defenseman Mitch Jones to a season-ending leg injury in Rapid City, and earlier lost defenseman Daniel Johnston to an upper-body injury. Defenseman William Wrenn has also missed several games with an upper-body injury. He's expected to return to the club Wednesday.

Alaska begins a 3 game series Wednesday at Idaho.

The Aces return home to face Ft. Wayne Wednesday, March 9.

For tickets, stop by the Aces ticket office at 15th and Gambell Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm or go online at www.alaskaaces.com.
