San Diego Gulls News Release
ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed goaltender Kevin Boyle to a one-year entry-level contract. Per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Boyle, 23 (5/30/92), the Hockey East 2015-16 Goaltender of the Year and Hockey East Co-Player of the Year, posted a 24-10-5 record, 1.88 goals-against average (GAA), .934 save percentage (SV%) and seven shutouts with the University of Massachusetts Lowell Riverhawks this season.
The Manalapan, NJ native ranked tied for fourth in the nation in GAA, fifth in wins, tied for sixth in SV%, tied for third in shutouts and starts (39), and second in minutes played (2363:34). Boyle established a single-season school record in shutouts and broke current Anaheim Goaltending Consultant Dwayne Roloson's school record for minutes played (2,342 in 1993-94). He also posted a school-record 58 saves in the triple-overtime Hockey East Semifinal victory against Providence on Mar. 18, 2016.
The 6-2, 200-pound senior was the first player in Hockey East history to win conference Player of the Year honors as a Second-Team All-Conference selection. Boyle shared Player of the Year honors with Boston College goaltender Thatcher Demko. He was also named Hockey East Tournament MVP after going 3-1-0 with a 1.24 GAA and .958 SV% in four games. Boyle is one of five finalists for the 2016 Mike Richter Award, given to the nation's most outstanding goaltender.
Boyle spent his freshman and sophomore seasons at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he posted a 16-17-6 record, 2.86 GAA and .896 SV% in 41 games before transferring to Lowell before the 2013-14 season. In two seasons with UMass Lowell, Boyle went 42-19-11 with a 2.10 GAA, .925 SV% and 10 shutouts in 73 games.
