Norfolk Admirals News Release
ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Anaheim Ducks, NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, have assigned forward Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond (PEE-air LEWK luh-TOOR-noh luh-BLAHND) to the Admirals and have recalled goaltender Frederik Andersen from the Admirals.
Letourneau-Leblond, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound left wing, has appeared in 242 career American Hockey League contests between the Albany River Rats (2005-06), Lowell Devils (2007-10), Albany Devils (2010-11) and Abbotsford Heat (2011-12), earning 18 goals and 39 points with 1,013 penalty minutes (PIM). No one in the AHL recorded more penalty minutes between the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons than Letourneau-Leblond's 501 PIM in 114 games between Albany and Abbotsford. His 334 penalty minutes in 64 games with Albany in 2010-11 led the AHL and were a career high.
Last season, the 27-year-old native of Levis, Quebec, appeared in three games for the NHL's Calgary Flames, recording a +1 rating with 10 penalty minutes (PIM). Letourneau-Leblond spent the remainder of the season with the AHL's Abbotsford Heat, scoring one goal and six points with a +4 rating and a team-leading 167 PIM in 50 games. He also appeared in five Calder Cup Playoff games for Abbotsford, going scoreless with 18 PIM.
Selected by New Jersey in the seventh round (216th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Letourneau-Leblond has played four NHL seasons with New Jersey (2008-11) and Calgary (2011-12). In 40 career NHL games, he has registered three assists with 101 PIM.
Letourneau-Leblond signed a one-year contract with Anaheim yesterday.
Andersen, a 6-foot-4, 250-pound goaltender, has posted a 7-10-1 record with a 2.48 goals-against average (GAA) and .924 save percentage (SV%) in 21 games with the Admirals this season. Andersen leads all AHL rookie goaltenders in SV% and ranks seventh overall, while he ranks third among AHL rookies in GAA and 20th overall. Andersen is playing his first season of North American pro hockey.
Prior to joining the Admirals, Andersen s et a franchise record for shutouts in a single season with Frolunda in the Swedish Elite League (SEL) in 2011-12, recording eight shutouts to pass Henrik Lundqvist's mark. He also led the SEL in GAA (1.67) and SV% (.941).
A native of Herning, Denmark, Andersen has represented Team Denmark at the last four IIHF World Championships in Finland/Sweden (2012), Slovakia (2011), Germany (2010) and Switzerland (2009). He was also a member of the Danish team at the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championship in the Czech Republic. Prior to joining Frolunda in 2011-12, Andersen played three seasons in Denmark's top league (AL Bank Ligaen), posting a 2.37 GAA and 10 shutouts in 88 games. In 2010-11, he ranked fourth among league goaltenders in GAA (2.49) and SV% (.920) in 36 games for Frederikshavn.
Andersen was selected by Anaheim in the third round (87th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
