Coming Up

Rivalry Month for the Phantoms gets into full swing this weekend with two games against the time Warner Cable Cup rival Albany Devils. Adirondack and Albany will also face each other two more times next weekend as well.

They will begin on Friday night in Glens Falls and on Sunday afternoon in Atlantic City. The Phantoms are the defending Time Warner Cable Cup champions but Albany leads the season series 3 games to 1 so far with 8 games remaining in the season series.

In between the Friday and Sunday games against Albany will be a Saturday road-trip to the Worcester Sharks, the Phantoms' lone trip to eastern Massachusetts.

Friday's home game is presented by Glens Falls Plastic Surgery and will also feature $2 draft beer specials.

Sunday's game in Atlantic City is one of the five home games the Devils are playing at Boardwalk Hall. But the Phantoms will be sure to have a large contingent of fans in south Jersey cheering for them.

The Devils will be returning to the Glens Falls Civic Center the next Friday as well on January 25 when the Phantoms hold their annual Pink in the Rink Night presented by Glens Falls Hospital with post-game jersey auction proceeds benefiting the C.R. Wood Cancer Center.

Phantoms Week in Review

Friday, January 11 - Adirondack Phantoms 3 - Binghamton Senators 2 (SO)

Danny Syvret finished his 500th career professional game in style. The veteran defenseman scored the game-winning goal in the 5th round of the shootout at Binghamton as Adirondack triumphed 3-2 in a thriller.

The Phantoms were without five of their top players who were with Philadelphia in training camp. The Senators had all of their NHL call-ups still with them as the Ottawa organization had not made their player movement yet. On top of that, Binghamton at 22-8-3 had the second-best record in the league.

But even with the Phantoms' new-look lineup they were able to hold the high-flying and highly skilled Senators skaters in check thanks to some big defensive plays as well as tremendous goaltending by rookie Cal Heeter.

Matt Ford (2nd) and Brandon Manning (5th) scored in the 2nd period for the Phantoms as they took a 2-0 lead but Binghamton rallied by the end of the period to even the score.

The Phantoms hung on through a tough 3rd period in which the Senators out-shot Adirondack 15-5. Cal Heeter made some terrific saves and then onto overtime the wild game would go.

Cullen Eddy's slapshot in overtime was tipped by Matthew Ford and then hit off the crossbar and out as Adirondack just missed on the game-winner. And then Cal Heeter dove to his left to make a diving, spectacular save on Patrick Wiercoch with just 20 seconds left in the overtime to keep the game going.

Heeter went a perfect 5-for-5 in the shootout setting the table for Syvret's low-shot through Ben Bishop for the game-winner.

Saturday, January 12 - Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 2 - Adirondack Phantoms 1

Marcel Noebels scored his first career AHL goal but it wasn't enough to push the Phantoms over the hump as Wilkes-Barre hung on for a 2-1 victory.

The 20-year-old from Germany had a nice backhand chip of a rebound following an Oliver Lauridsen slapshot.

But Brad Thiessen in net for the Penguins would knock away 22 of 23 Adirondack drives and preserve the win.

Harry Zolnierczyk nicely set up Andrew Johnston from behind the net in the second period by Johnston's blast went off Thiessen's shoulder. Just a few seconds later, Zolnierczyk was well past everyone on a clean breakaway and had a top-shelf opening to score but Thiessen just barely got a glove up in time to deflect it away.

Adirondack had a 6-on-4 advantage late in the game to try to tie the score but Brandon Manning's drive from the point just missed wide and the Phantoms ended up falling in the first of their four meetings with the Penguins this year.

Saratoga Spine Phantoms Player of the Week - Danny Syvret

Danny Syvret is our Saratoga Spine Player of the Week.

Playing in his 500th career professional game, Syvret blasted home the game-winner in the 5th round of the shootout at Binghamton in a 3-2 win.

It was Syvret's second shootout winner of the season. He blasted a deciding goal in the 7th round on December 21 at Syracuse.

Syvret has played in 178 games with the Phantoms and 204 in the Flyers organization. He has also played for Hamilton, Grand Rapids, Hershey, the Philadelphia Phantoms, Springfield, Syracuse, Hershey as well as Adirondack. In the NHL, Syvret has played for Philadelphia and Edmonton. His first career NHL goal came on January 1, 2010 in the Winter Classic at Fenway Park in Boston.
