Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Americans General Manager Jody Gage announced today that the team has made three player moves. Goalie Michael Leighton has returned from Buffalo Sabres, while right wing Jason Pominville has been recalled for the second time this season. The Amerks have also released goalie Len Perno.

Leighton rejoins the Amerks for tonight's 5:00 p.m. game against the Albany River Rats at the Pepsi Arena (WHTK 1280-AM and B2 Networks). Leighton spent two games with the Sabres, following an injury to Mika Noronen. This season with the Amerks, Leighton is 5-5 with a 2.81 goals-against average.

Pominville heads back to Buffalo as the American Hockey League's leading goal scorer. This season, he has 19 goals in 18 games. He is also tied for first with nine power-play goals and ranks fourth in the AHL in points with 26 points (19+7). Pominville is in his fourth season with the Amerks. Last season, he finished tied for second on the team with 68 points (30+38) in 78 games. The Repentigny, Que., native was the Buffalo Sabres' second-round selection (55th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

With the addition of Leighton, Rochester released Perno from his professional tryout contract. He joined the team on Wednesday and was the team's No. 2 goalie for two games this week. The Rochester native played in two games with the Amerks during the 1996-97 season. The Oswego State product also played one game with the Binghamton Rangers that same season. He has also made stops in Reno (WCHL), Knoxville (ECHL) and Utica (CoHL).

On Sunday, November 27th, the Toronto Marlies return to Rochester for the third time this season. The Amerks lead the season series with a 2-1-0-0 record. The 6:05 p.m. game will be broadcast on WHTK 1280-AM and webcast on the B2 Networks. The game is also available to on-line viewers on the B2 Networks for $6.00. In addition, the contest will be televised live on Leafs TV.
