PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Phantoms won their fourth straight home game on Saturday night, with a rousing 4-3 overtime victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The inspired Phantoms scored twice in the third and Freddy Meyer bagged the overtime winner, in front of 8,024 at the Wachovia Center.

The game was the second in a double bill at the Center, with the afternoon affair witnessed by 19,780 favoring the New York Islanders over the Flyers, 4-2. The game between their affiliates seemed headed in a similar direction until the Phantoms righted their power play.

Travis Brigley and Jeremy Colliton registered goals just 17 seconds apart in the first to stake the Sound Tigers to a 2-0 lead. Brigley's came on the power play at 15:22, while Colliton dashed in on the right wing and found some room over the shoulder of Phantoms backstop Jamie Storr.

Charlie Cook scored on a seeing-eye slapper from the right wing point at 3:30 of the second. The mantelpiece marker was the first for Cook as a professional, as he snuck it over the right leg of backstop Chris Madden. The Tigers, however, regained their two-goal lead before the period expired, with Bruno Gervais finding the scoresheet at 17:29.

Pat Kavanagh again made the difference one goal. At 6:43, he banged away at a loose puck in front, getting off two shots before finally pushing it past Madden. It was his team leading 10th.

Ben Eager triggered the shot that Kavanagh followed for the goal and Eager then tied the game with just 2:56 remaining in regulation. Planted between the faceoff circles, Eager was saucered a perfect feed from Brent Kelly. Eager went top shelf for the tie.

Phantoms bench boss John Stevens couldn't help but sing the praises of his persistent team, saying, "We felt like we were playing good enough to have a chance to win. It didn't seem like it at times because we kept getting behind in the hockey game, but I thought it was great that we stayed with it and our work ethic stayed at a very high level and I think that was a reason we drew some penalties."

The Phantoms had a rare 5-on-3 power play in the overtime as Matt Koalska and Kevin Colley were whistled for separate infractions in the early going of the OT. Freddy Meyer made them pay.

John Slaney started the play by firing a shot from the low slot that was knocked down in front. Eric Chouinard poked his stick at the puck freeing it for Meyer at the top left of the crease. The blue collar blueliner swept in his third of the season at 1:11, cashing in on the Phantoms eighth and final power play.

Slaney's assist on the play puts him just five points away from becoming the AHL's all-time leading scoring defenseman. The win put the Phantoms two points up on the Tigers and keeps them in third place in the East Division with 20 points and a 9-11-0-2 record.

The Phantoms now travel to Binghamton for a Sunday 5:05 pm showdown with the Senators. Philadelphia's next home game is at the Spectrum on Friday, December 2nd at 7:05 pm, also against the Senators. As always, kids tickets are always $8.
