Binghamton Senators News Release
OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators today reassigned left-winger Denis Hamel to the club's American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.
The 28-year-old recorded one NHL goal playing in his second consecutive game with the Senators this season. Hamel also had 4 shots and averaged 7:25 minutes of time on ice.
The Lachute, Que. native was called-up on Tuesday, Nov. 22 on an emergency basis for the club's game against the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh to replace centre Bryan Smolinski who suffered a bruised right shoulder. Hamel remained with the team for the club's game against the Islanders in New York on Friday, to replace right-winger Martin Havlat who suffered a left hamstring injury against Carolina.
In 16 games with Binghamton this season, Hamel leads the team with 10 goals and 10 assists, and also had 10 penalty minutes and a -5 in the plus-minus rating. Hamel was held off the scoresheet in Binghamton's 1-0 win over the Springfield Falcons Sunday, but he was on a five-game point streak (Nov. 11-19) with seven goals and four assists.
The Binghamton Senators have now won four straight games on home ice. The B-Sens are sixth in the East Division with six wins, 10 losses, an overtime and shootout loss for 14 points. Binghamton's next game is Saturday, Nov. 26, as they host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins for the first time on home ice and the second of eight games against the Penguins this season.
