
Americans Struggle to Find Offensive Spark in Loss to Winterhawks

The Americans wrapped up a three-in-three weekend tonight in Portland. Tri-City struggled to get their offense rolling and suffered an 8-0 shutout loss to the Winterhawks.
Portland opened scoring 4:29 into the game with a goal from Cross Hanas. James Stefan followed two minutes later with Portland's only power play goal of the night. The Winterhawks out shot the Americans 11-8 through the first 20 minutes and Portland carried their 2-0 lead into the second period.
The Winterhawks took off in the second period scoring five more goals and taking a dominate 7-0 lead into the final frame.
Nick Avakyan started in net tonight for the Americans. The rookie goaltender turned aside 22 of 29 shots faced before being relieved in net by Tomas Suchanek for the third period.
Suchanek stopped 10 of 11 shots faced, allowing one final goal from the Winterhawks with five minutes remaining in the game.
Taylor Gauthier, who was recently acquired by the Winterhawks from Prince George, made his first start in net against the Americans since arriving in Portland. He stopped all 17 shots faced from Tri-City to record his first shutout of the season.

The Americans return to action on Tuesday at the Toyota Center as the Prince George Cougars visit Kennewick. Single game tickets can be purchased at the Toyota Center Box Office or online from Ticketmaster.
