Portland Winterhawks News Release
Portland, Ore. - Four different Winterhawks posted multiple points and Taylor Gauthier posted a 17-save shutout as Portland hammered Tri-City 8-0 to cap off a second straight 3-0-0-0 weekend for the Hawks. With the win, the Hawks have now won seven-in-a-row and extended their point streak to 14 straight games.
Portland came flying out of the gates in this one and never looked back, starting with a goal from Cross Hanas at 4:29 of the first period on a 2-on-0 with Marcus Nguyen. James Stefan doubled the lead two minutes later on the power-play with his 19th of the year.
The second period featured Portland at its high-flying best. Nguyen got the party started at 3:27, hammering home a Tyson Kozak feed from behind the net. From there, Kyle Chyzowski scored for the second straight game as he finished of a beautiful play from Luke Schelter and Cross Hanas, Nguyen added another - thanks again to Hanas' pass, marking his fourth point of the night - Schelter joined the fun with a deflection goal and Aidan Litke finished the rampant middle stanza with an exclamation point. After taking a slick behind-the-back pass from Jack O'Brien, Aidan Litke rifled a wrist shot off the back crossbar and down for his 12th goal of the year.
Stefan added another in the third period - his 20th tally of the season - to cement one of Portland's best offensive showings of the year. Gauthier's shutout was his first of the season and pushed his record to 7-0-0-0 since joining the Winterhawks.
Portland's next contest comes on Friday, Feb. 4 as they take on the Americans once more on the road in Kennewick.
