Cougars Recall Forwards Hunter Laing & Zackary Shantz

PRINCE GEORGE, BC- The Prince George Cougars have called up 2006-born forward Hunter Laing and 2005-born forward Zackary Shantz as affiliate players, the team announced today.

Laing, 15, made his Western Hockey League (WHL) debut with the Cougars on January 22nd in Kamloops. The 6'6," 190-pound winger leads the Rink Hockey Academy U-16 Prep team in scoring with 30 points (14g-16a) in 22 games. The

Kelowna, BC product was the Cougars' second-round pick, 33rd overall, in the 2021 WHL Prospects draft.

Shantz, 16, played in his first WHL game on November 27th in Kelowna. The Sucker Creek, AB product is second in team scoring with 44 points (16g-28a) in 20 games with the Northern Alberta Xtreme U-18 Prep team. The 5'10," 145-pound

center was drafted by Prince George in the third-round, 66th overall, in the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft.

With the additions of Laing and Shantz, the roster now sits at 24: 14 forwards, eight defencemen, and two goaltenders.

Laing and Shantz are expected to be in the Cougars' lineup tomorrow, February 1st, against the Tri-City Americans in Kennewick, WA. Fans can listen to the game on 94.3 The GOAT or watch on CHL TV.
