Taylor Gauthier Named WHL's Goalie of the Week
January 31, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Portland Winterhawks News Release
Portland, Ore. - The Portland Winterhawks, proud member club of the Western Hockey League, are pleased to announce that goaltender Taylor Gauthier has been named Goaltender of the Week by the WHL for the week of Jan. 24-30.
This is Gauthier's second time earning Goaltender of the Week honors in the month of January.
Gauthier, 20, went 2-0-0-0 with a 0.50 GAA and .977% save percentage over the weekend. Starting on Friday against his former club, the Prince George Cougars, Gauther stopped 26 of 27 shots as the Winterhawks took a 4-1 victory. After ceding the net to Dante Giannuzzi for another Portland win in Seattle on Saturday, Gauthier returned to the crease on Sunday to notch his first shutout of the season and seventh of his WHL career, a 17-save effort in an 8-0 win over Tri-City.
Gauthier's pair of wins maintained his perfect start to life in Portland since the trade from Prince George on Dec. 27, having posted a 7-0-0-0 record in a Winterhawks sweater thus far. In those seven starts, Gauthier boasts a 1.70 GAA and .970% save percentage, and his season-long save percentage of .930% leads all WHL netminders with at least two starts.
