Americans' late effort not enough in 4-1 loss to Texas

Allen Americans News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - The Allen Americans fell short in a physical, tension-filled matchup with their cross-town rivals, the Texas Brahmas. The Americans are 33-11-3 (69 points).
Newly acquired netminder Alexandre Vincent started in tonight's contest because Chris Whitley was called up to the Texas Stars tonight. Whitley became the third American to receive an American Hockey League call-up. Former Allen goalie Charlie Effinger and forward Justin Bowers were called up earlier this season.
Players on both teams got fired up early in the game after a clean hit from Chris Kaufman left Brahma Jordan Cameron knocked out temporarily. Cameron skated off the ice to the applause from players and fans alike.
The Brahmas grabbed a power play goal at 9:30 from James Hiebert. Immediately following the next faceoff, Allen's Kaufman and Texas' Tyler Skworchinski received five minutes for fighting. Brandon Straub followed that bout with a faceoff of his own against Brahma Nathan Perrott. Later in the period, Liam Huculak beat up Perrott to earn a trip to the sin bin. The Brahmas had a 1-0 edge after the first period.
At 7:31 of the middle frame, an open Jason Deitsch stuffed the puck in the Americans' cage to make it 2-0. Five minutes later, Matt Burto went top shelf to give Texas a 3-0 advantage.
Early in the third period, Brahma Luke Sellars received a five-minute major for fighting and a two-minute instigator penalty that resulted in a seven-minute power play for the Americans. Tyler Wooddisse scored with the extra-man advantage at 9:10 to put the Americans within two of the Brahmas. When Allen pulled Vincent to put on an extra attacker, Burto got an empty-net goal to bring the final score to 4-1.
With three seconds left in the game, Mike Salekin and Perrott dropped the gloves to end the game on an appropriate note. The contest set a new record for most combined penalty minutes in a game with 117.
Vincent made 30 saves in his debut with the club.
The Americans earned four out of six points in their stretch of three games in three nights.
Prior to tonight's game, Mick Berge was moved from 14-day IR to 30-day IR. Forward Britt Dougherty and defenseman Jordie Benn were placed on 14-day IR, retroactive to Feb. 5 and Feb. 2, respectively.
The Americans host the Brahmas Monday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. for the last time in the regular season at the Allen Event Center. The club then travels to Arizona for back-to-back games Wednesday and Thursday.
