Conference Leaders Clash in South Dakota

The CHL's two conference leaders clash this weekend in Rapid City when the Rush (31-10-3) host the Odessa Jackalopes (36-7-4) on Friday and Saturday. The teams will also meet twice in March in Odessa. The Rush are back home after a seven-game road trip that saw them post a 5-0-2 record. Rapid City has the league's longest active win streak at five games and are 15-6-0 at home this season. Odessa is 20-3-1 in their last 24 games and are comfortably on top of the Southern Conference with 76 points. The Jacks are trying to cruise their way to the CHL's Governors' Cup (regular season champs). Odessa has won seven straight road games and are 19-4-2 in away from home this season. Rapid City will close out the tough, testing weekend with a Valentine's Day game at Colorado (30-10-5).

Note: This weekend's clash feature the league's best power play, Odessa, and the league's best penalty kill, Rapid City. The Jacks are 14 for their last 33 on the PP (42%) and the Rush have killed 32 of their last 36 (89%). On the season, Odessa connects 26.6% of the time and Rapid City kills 88.8% of the PP's they face.

Bucks and Brahmas Battle it Out for Playoff Positioning

The Laredo Bucks (22-15-8) and the Texas Brahmas (23-17-5) will meet on Friday night at the NYTEX Sports Centre in a battle for third place in the Southern Conference. The Bucks currently lead Texas by one point as both teams enter the contest on three-game win streaks. Texas is 12-1-1 in their last 14 home games and the Bucks are 4-2-0 in their last six games away from home. Laredo has won two of the three games thus far in the season series. Texas' Jordan Cameron leads all skaters in the series with a goal and three assists and has the league's longest active goal streak scoring markers in each of the Brahmas last six games. The longest goal streak of the season is held by Odessa's Kenny Bernard (eight games).

Love is in the Air

There are five games scheduled on Sunday with several key showdowns highlighting the docket. Currently tied for first place in the North, Colorado will host Rapid City. The other games feature Corpus Christi at Bossier-Shreveport, Wichita at Mississippi, Rio Grande Valley at Laredo and Arizona at Amarillo. BY THE NUMBERS

502- The number of CHL points that Odessa forward Sebastien Thinel has scored in his career with the Jacks. Thinel reached the milestone on Saturday in grand fashion with a five assist game in Odessa's 9-4 win over Colorado. Thinel, the reigning CHL Most Valuable Player, is currently third in the league in scoring with 62 points (12-50=62). He has been on a tear lately scoring five times with 16 assists in his last nine games.

13- The number of points that the league's leading scorer, Kevin Ulanski, scored on the Eagles recently completed seven-game road trip. Colorado went 4-1-2 on their journey with Ulanski scoring four goals with nine assists over the trip scoring at least a point in every game. Ulanski's point streak sits at nine games accounting for 18 points (4-14=18). On the season, Ulanski has 75 points (23-52=75) leading teammate Riley Nelson by seven points for the league lead. Nelson had 12 points on the road trip (2-10=12).

8- The current personal win streak for Allen goaltender Chris Whitley who leads the CHL with 24 wins on the season. The rookie has allowed just 15 goals over those eight wins and ranks fourth in the CHL with a 2.60 GAA. Last night versus Tulsa, Whitley made 25 saves in a 2-1 overtime win for the Americans, their fourth straight victory.

8- The number of points that Corpus Christi rookie Ryan Garbutt has scored in his last six games notching four goals with four assists. Playing the complete game, Garbutt has also accumulated 27 PIM's and is a +9 in over that stretch. His team is 3-2-1 over their last six games and the first-year player currently is tied for the rookie lead with 35 points and leads all rookies with 17 goals. Missouri's Nick Sirota is the other player tied for the top spot with 35 points (15-20=35).

SLAP SHOTS

-Colorado head coach Kevin McClelland coached his 300th and 301st CHL games this past week, both wins. In his CHL coaching career, McClelland is 175-102-24 (.623 winning percentage).

-The Wichita Thunder (7-33-3) host the Missouri Mavericks (20-22-4) on Friday night looking for their first win versus the expansion Mavs this season. Missouri is 7-0 versus Wichita outscoring them 29-8 in this seven wins. Jeff Christian has 10 points (3-7=10) in the games versus the Thunder. Wichita is playing much better lately winning three of their last four games.

-The Corpus Christi IceRays and the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs will play a home-and-home series on Saturday and Sunday with both teams needing points. Corpus Christi is 0-2-2 versus the North and the Mudbugs are 10-11-1 versus the South. The 'Bugs have won both of the previous meetings prevailing by a goal in each contest.

-The Tulsa Oilers are 5-2 this season versus Mississippi and with a regulation win versus the RiverKings on Friday night can pull into a tie for the fourth spot in the North. Mississippi has lost five straight games (0-4-1) overall and Tulsa has points in three of their last four games (2-1-1) after last night's OT loss in Allen.
