Amarillo, TX - The 900th regular season Gorillas/Rattlers game went to a shootout Sunday, where the Arizona Sundogs claimed the shootout win 5-4.
Amarillo hit the scoresheet first for the seventh time in their last eight games when forward David Nimmo deflected an Erik Felde shot on the power-play at the 4:37 mark. The Sundogs fired back with a man advantage marker of their own, as forward Steve Potvin sent his shot through traffic from the point for his eighth goal of the season. The score after one period of play, Amarillo 1 Arizona 1.
Each team earned three tallies each in a wild second period. All three of Arizona's goals were on the power-play while Amarillo received goals from Austin Sutter, Jake Morissette, and Anthony Battaglia. The Gorillas scored the final goal of the frame, as forward Anthony Battaglia dove after a juicy rebound with 3:01 left in the period. It was Battaglia's first power-play goal since November 6th. Amarillo ended the second period 2 for 3 with the man-advantage (Arizona 3 for 6). Amarillo 4 Arizona 4 after two periods.
No one scored in the third period or in overtime and the game went to a shootout. Jake Morissette scored in the shootout for Amarillo, but Arizona scored 3 times. Final score Arizona 5 Amarillo 4 in a shootout.
Forward David Nimmo extended his home point streak to 6 games with his first period goal.Austin Sutter scored his first home goal of the season since recording a hat trick March 21st of last season.After returning to the lineup Friday after missing 9 games due to injury, Jake Morissette has 4 points over his last 3 games.
