
Bucks Back To Third Place With Shootout Loss

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 4-3 in a shootout Sunday afternoon on Valentines Day at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The Bucks picked up a point in the loss and move into a third place tie in the Southern Conference with Texas. Laredo falls to 23-16-9 (55 points).
Daymen Rycroft scored the game-winning goal in the shootout while Andy Franck set aside all four Laredo shootout attempts he faced as the Bees moved two points out of the final playoff spot in the South. Franck set aside 33 of 36 in the game. Seven of the 10 meetings this season between the Bucks and Bees have been decided by one goal with six of those contests going to a shootout.
The Bucks trailed 3-1 going into the third period but picked up two straight goals to tie the contest and force overtime. Laredo finished their third straight three-game weekend with a 1-1-1 record.
Curtis Billsten cut the Bees lead to 3-2 when he scored 4:02 into the third period on a shot from the right side of the crease. The goal was Billsten's sixth of the season.
The Bucks tied the game at 3-3 with 5:59 left in the third period when Jarred Mohr jammed in his own rebound right in front of the Bees net. Mohr now has eight goals on the season.
The Killer Bees jumped ahead of the Bucks 1-0 when Sean Muncy took a feed from Grant Goecker-Zoeller and slipped in a shot from the left side of the crease at the 7:06 mark. The tally was Muncy's 11 of the season.
The Bucks would tie the game up at 1-1 with 4:40 left in the first period when Neil Trimm took a pass from Evan Schwabe on a two-on-one break and stuffed in a backhander at the left side of the crease. The goal was Trimm's eighth of the season and his first since January 29th.
The Bees outshot the Bucks 13-10 in the first.
Rio scored twice in the second period to take a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.
Joel Irving put the Bees up 2-1 just 1:24 into the second when he jammed in a power-play goal right in front of the Bucks net. The strike was Irving's 11th of the campaign.
The Bees (20-21-7) would increase their lead to 3-1 with 1:43 left in the second when Brett Clouthier skated down the right wing and hammered in a shot from the top of the right circle. It was Clouthier's seventh of the season.
The Bucks were outshot in the second period 17-11.
Rio outshot Laredo 37-36 in the game.
Kevin Desfosses suffered the loss in net for the Bucks as he set aside 33 of 36 shots he faced.
The Bucks remain unbeaten against the Bees in regulation with a 7-0-3 record.
