
Americans Fall to Brahmas for First Time This Season, 5-4

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS- The first place Allen Americans were unable to get back to their winning ways tonight, falling to the Texas Brahmas 5-4 in front of 2,458 at the Nytex Sports Centre in North Richland Hills, TX. The Americans drop to 34-11-2 with the loss but continue to lead the Berry Conference and the Central Hockey League with 70 points.
The Brahmas dominated the opening frame and held a 2-0 lead after twenty minutes of play behind a pair of goals from Chad Woollard at 15:33 and 17:39 of the period. Chris Whitley finished the period with 17 saves on 19 shots while Wayne Savage stopped all 8 shots from the Americans.
Kip Brennan got the Americans on the board and cut the Brahmas lead to 2-1 0:44 into the second period with a power play goal after picking up a loose puck in the crease and burying it past Savage. The goal was Brennan's eighth of the season.
Greg Hogeboom restored the Brahmas two goal lead 6:17 into the middle frame but the Americans would fight back and make it a 3-2 game 3:05 later when Nino Musitelli's blast on the power play found the back of the net. Bruce Graham and Jonathon Zion were credited with the assists on the play.
Brahmas forward Jason Krischuk scored with 0:11 remaining in the period to give Texas a 4-2 lead heading into the second intermission. The Brahmas outshot the Americans 14-9 in the frame and held a 33-17 advantage in shots through forty minutes of play.
The third period saw the Americans trim the Brahmas lead to 4-3 0:52 into the period when Bruce Graham deposited Colton Yellow Horn's feed past Savage. The goal was the Americans third power play tally of the night.
Greg Hogeboom's blast 6:51 into the frame extended the Brahmas lead to 5-3, but the Americans would strike back again and make it a 5-4 game with 8:52 remaining in regulation when Jonathon Zion's wrister through traffic found it's way past Savage and into the back of the net. The goal was Zion's first as a member of the Americans.
The Americans pulled Chris Whitley in favor of the extra-attacker for the final moments of regulation but were unable to net the equalizer.
Colton Yellow Horn extended his point streak to seven games with an assist on Bruce Graham's third period goal and has now registered twelve points (8g, 5a) during the streak.
The Americans will now travel to Laredo to take on the Bucks on Tuesday night at 7:00 PM before returning home to the Allen Event Center for a pair of games next weekend. Allen will faceoff against the Brahmas on Friday night at 7:30 PM followed by a meeting with the Bloomington PrairieThunder on Saturday night at 7:00 PM. Prior to the game on Saturday the 26th, Allen Police and Fire will battle at 5:00PM. Come out to the Allen Event Center to see two straight games of great hockey action!
