
Two Laredo First Period Goals Defeat Bees

HIDALGO, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (21-25-5) fell to the Laredo Bucks (17-26-7) on Saturday night by a 3-1 score. Laredo scored two goals in a three-minute span in the first period, a lead the Bees were never able to overcome. Dominic D'Amour scored the Bees lone goal while on the power-play. For D'Amour it was his first goal in a Killer Bees jersey.
Laredo opened the game scoring the first two goals of the game. Aaron Boogard started the scoring for the Bucks with his second of the season with a wrister that beat Jerad Kaufmann on the blocker side.
Laredo added to their lead just three minutes later after Jeff Hazelwood shot a loose puck to the back of the net. There was a major scrum for the puck in front and after Kaufmann made a number of saves the puck squirted free where Hazelwood picked it up for the goal.
The Bees would get one back before the period came to a close as Dominic D'Amour scored his first goal in a Killer Bees jersey with a power-play goal at 15:10. D'Amour controlled the puck at the point and started skating towards the net, with no pressure from Laredo D'Amour took the puck all the way to the front of the crease where he backhanded a shot past Torrie Jung.
The Laredo Bucks would add one more tally in the second period, the final goal of the game, as Daniel Koger increased the Bucks lead back to two. Neil Trimm and Jeff Bes earned the assists with the goal at 11:11.
The third period would be devoid of scoring as the two teams traded chances but neither was able to find the back of the net again. Jerad Kaufmann made 19 saves for the Bees in net.
The Bees continue their homestand on Tuesday hosting Bossier-Shreveport and Wednesday hosting the Allen Americans, both games start at 7 p.m. and tickets are available by calling 843-PUCK or visiting killerbeehockey.com.
