Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - Texas captured a pivotal win over their cross town rivals Allen Americans in a tight 5-4 victory, stretching their winning streak to five games.
Woollard was on the hunt to extend his goal scoring streak to seven games, but one goal would not be suffice for the Brahmas franchise player as he netted a pair in the first period. His first came from a cross ice pass by Jason Deitsch and beat Chris Whitley blocker side at the 15:33 marker. Woollard scored his team leading 30th goal two minutes later when the sniper skated in and buried the puck for the Texas 2-0 lead.
An onslaught of goals were scored in the middle frame, beginning with a powerplay goal by Kip Brennan to put the Americans on the board. Greg Hogeboom, who is riding a scoring streak of his own, extended it to five straight games with a point when he fired a bullet past past Whitley with 14 minutes remaining in the second. Allen's top ranked powerplay went back on the job following a call on Sean Hurley, and it was Nino Musitelli who snuck the puck around Wayne Savage in the crease 11 seconds into the man advantage. The Brahmas had an "11" special on their side later; with just 11 ticks remaining in the period Jason Krischuk from the top of the point went top shelf to send the Brahmas up 4-2 into the second intermission.
The powerplay continued to keep the Americans in the game when Bruce Graham lit the lamp with a special teams tally of his own to get Allen back within one shot. The Brahmas had their opportunity with the man advantage, and just as time expired, Hogeboom skated in toward the crease and dusted the puck to send it home. A relentless Allen team answered back with an even strength goal of their own from Jonathan Zion five minutes later. In effort to send the game into the extra period, Allen pulled the goaltender for the extra attacker but the Brahmas and their sold out crowd at the NYTEX Sports Centre were willed to for a victory and won the game 5-4.
On Monday, February 21 the Brahmas have a game against the Wichita Thunder at a special "President's Day" time, 6 pm. For ticket information please contact the Brahmas Box Office at (817) 336-4423 or visit www.brahmas.com.
