Mudbugs Fall After Late Missouri Outburst
February 19, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
INDEPENDENCE, MO - In a game much closer than the final score indicates, the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs lost to the Missouri Mavericks 3-0 Saturday night at the Independence Events Center. The âBugs finish the season series with a 2-1-0 record against Missouri and stand at 27-21-2 overall heading into Tuesday's game at Rio Grande Valley.
The game stayed scoreless for over 57 minutes before Missouri netted three goals in span of 1:07 to come away with the win. John DeCaro stopped all of the first 26 shots he saw, while Robby Nolan handed the Mudbugs their fourth shutout loss of the season with 15 saves.
The teams combined for 19 shots on goal in the opening period, but both goaltenders kept the puck out of the net and the game stayed scoreless into the second. The âBugs failed to record a shot in the middle frame, but John DeCaro stopped all eight Missouri shots he saw to keep the Mavs off the board. Bossier-Shreveport missed on two powerplays in the period and Missouri went scoreless on three as the Mudbugs saw a game stay scoreless through 40 minutes for the first time this season.
The scoreless duel continued through most of the third period as neither team blinked until just 2:58 remained in regulation. That's when Todd Griffith received a pass from Mike Berry and drove the front of the net before beating DeCaro for the eventual game-winning goal. With the Mudbugs pressing for a late game-tying goal, Griffith scored again 31 seconds later and Toby Lafrance capped off the Missouri victory with another tally 36 seconds after that.
The Mavericks outshot the Mudbugs 29-15 in the contest. Bossier-Shreveport went 0 for 4 on the powerplay, while Missouri was 0 for 3.
Next up for the Mudbugs is a trip back to South Texas to face the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees Tuesday at 7:00 pm before they return home for next week's "Pink in the Rink" games at home on Thursday and Saturday. Tuesday's game will start at 7:00 pm and will be shown live on CHL-TV. Visit the Mudbugs broadcast schedule page for radio broadcast information.
