HIDALGO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 3-1 Saturday night at State Farm Arena. The Bucks snapped their six-game winless streak as they improve to 17-26-7 (41 points).
Torrie Jung stopped 32 of 33 shots he faced to help give Terry Ruskowski his 550th career victory.
The Bees, who wore special Hawaiian jerseys, had their three-game winning streak snapped as they fall to 21-25-5.
The Bucks struck early for two goals to build a 2-1 lead after the first period.
Laredo went up 1-0 at the 9:43 mark of the first when Aaron Boogaard scored from the top of the right circle on an odd-man rush to net his second of the season.
The Bucks would increase their lead to 2-0 a little more than three minutes later when Jeff Hazelwood took a feed from Daniel Koger right in front of the crease and stuffed in his 14th of the season.
The Bees would cut the Bucks lead to 2-1 with 4:50 left in the first when Dominic D'Amour skated down the slot on the power-play and picked up his eighth goal of the year.
The Bees outshot the Bucks 12-9 in the first period.
Laredo would increase their lead to 3-1 with 8:49 left in the second period when Daniel Koger scored from the right side of the slot thanks to a drop pass from Neil Trimm on an odd-man rush. The goal was Koger's team-leading 23rd of the season.
The Bucks improve to just 4-25-6 this season when scoring three or less goals in a game.
The Bees outshot the Bucks 12-7 in the second period.
Neither team scored in the third period with the Bees outshooting the Bucks 9-6.
Laredo was outshot in the game 33-22.
Jared Kaufmann stopped 19 of 22 shots for the Bees.
