Portland, OR - The Tri-City Americans stumbled out of the gate Sunday night in Portland, finding themselves down 4-0 just 7:07 into the game, en route to a 7-0 loss to the Winterhawks at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

After opening the scoring 2:36 into the game Portland added two more goals just 49 seconds apart at 4:07 and 4:56 to jump ahead 3-0 before the game was five minutes old. Luke Schelter pushed the lead to 4-0 at 7:07 to see Lukas Matecha replace Nick Avakyan in the Americans net.

Tri-City ended the first period with a power play but it was Portland scoring a shorthanded goal with two seconds remaining in the period, sending the two teams to the locker room with Portland leading 5-0. Shots read 15-6 Winterhawks after 20 minutes.

While the scoring slowed down over the final 40 minutes, the Winterhawks controlled the majority of play in the middle frame by outshooting the Americans 15-4 and adding a power play goal to take a 6-0 lead into the second intermission.

Tri-City pushed back in the third period, outshooting the Winterhawks 12-5, but Jan Spunar shut the door with a 22 save shutout in the 7-0 final score.

The Americans kick off a three-game home stand at the Toyota Center by welcoming their newest division rival, the Wenatchee Wild, on Wednesday for a 7:05 puck drop.
