Tri-City Americans News Release
Kennewick, WA - The Tri-City Americans used a three-goal third period to pull away from the Kamloops Blazers and pick up a 5-2 win at the Toyota Center Saturday night.
Kamloops opened the scoring 7:23 into the game. Shea Van Olm chipped the puck off the boards in the neutral zone before chasing it down and creating a two-on-one rush. Van Olm fired the puck across the ice for Dylan Sydor who tapped it past the outstretched glove of Lukas Matecha.
The Americans outshot the Blazers 12-8 in the opening 20 minutes and tied the game with under two minutes to go. Deagan McMillan found a bouncing puck in the slot and turned to fire it toward the net. It went off the skate of a Kamloops defender and past Dylan Ernst to tie the game with 1:54 remaining in the first period. The goal extended his point streak to five games.
Early in the second period Tri-City took their first lead of the game. Off a face-off win in the Kamloops zone, Lukas Dragicevic skated down the slot before wiring a wrist shot over the glove of Ernst for his second goal of the year.
A little over halfway through the second period the Blazers pulled even. Andrew Thomson took a pass from behind the Americans net and quickly snapped it past the left pad of Matecha at 10:50 to tie the game at two.
The two teams went into the intermission tied at two with the shots 22-14 in favor of the Americans.
Just under five minutes into the third period the Americans received a four-minute power play and took advantage 43 seconds into it.
Bell sent a pass from the right circle to the left circle that Jordan Gavin double clutched on. While he was unable to get his initial shot away on his forehand, Gavin spun around and threw a backhand shot toward the net that went off the post and in with Ernst out of position. It was Gavin's second goal of the year to restore the Americans lead at 5:35 of the third.
A few minutes later the Americans added to the lead. A strong forecheck behind the Kamloops goal led to a turnover with the puck popping out to the front of the net. Nick Anisimovicz jumped on the loose puck and cut across the crease, out waiting Ernst and scoring his first career WHL goal. Camerin Cardona drew the lone assist at 9:05 of the third.
With the clock winding down, Kamloops pulled Ernst for the extra attacker, but Bell was able to force his way down the ice, through the defense and slide the puck into the empty net to seal the Americans 5-2 win.
