Portland Winterhawks News Release

Portland, Ore. - The Winterhawks continued to cruise on Sunday as six different skaters scored in a dominant 7-0 win over the Tri-City Americans. Jan Špunar picked up his first career regular-season shutout with 22 saves as Portland picked up its sixth consecutive victory.

Portland's onslaught began early with four goals in a span of 4:31 during the first period, marking the fifth time in seven games in which the Hawks have scored four or more goals in one period.

Nick Johnson kicked things off with a one-time finish of Kyle Chyzowski's feed at 2:36, followed 91 seconds later by Carter Sotheran's power-play bomb from the blue line. James Stefan then joined the fray with his first of the night - a top-shelf bullet from the right circle - to make it 3-0 at 4:56, just over two minutes before Luke Schelter deflected a Ryder Thompson blast for his third of the season.

Luca Cagnoni wrapped up the dominant opening frame as he tapped home a spinaround feed from Stefan in front of the net with just two seconds to play in the period, but the Hawks weren't done there. Midway through the second, it was Stefan again finding twine as he chipped home a bouncing puck on the power play for a 6-0 lead. Then, in the third, Hudson Darby bagged his second goal of the weekend with a seeing-eye backhander to bring the Hawks' lead to seven and complete the rout.

The Winterhawks are back in action at the VMC on Wednesday at 7:00 P.M. against the Brandon Wheat Kings.
