Game #10 Home Game #4

LAST NIGHT: The Altoona Curve secured their first victory of the 2009 season last evening at Blair County Ballpark, 7-5 over the Erie SeaWolves. Right-hander Mike Crotta tossed 6.1 solid innings to secure the win for Altoona. Jonel Pacheco hit his second home run of the season and Jim Negrych drove in a pair of runs and scored twice in the victory.

TONIGHT'S GAME AT A GLANCE: The Altoona Curve will look for their second win of the 2009 season today and draw even in the four-game series as they take on the Erie SeaWolves (AA - Detroit) at Blair County Ballpark...

TONIGHT'S STARTING PITCHERS: Altoona's Daniel Moskos will make his third appearance (second start) of 2009 this afternoon. In his first Double-A start on Monday versus Akron, Moskos did not factor in the decision after tossing 3.1 innings and allowing four runs. Moskos walked a career-high five batters

Erie will send right-hander Jonah Nickerson makes his third start of the season. Erie's Opening Day Starter on Wednesday, April 8 against Altoona and did not factor in the decision...Last time out (Tue., 4/14) Nickerson took the loss versus Bowie, allowing 11 hits and five runs over 4.2 innings.

CURVE/ERIE SERIES: Tonight is the seventh of 25 meetings between Altoona and Erie. With the unbalanced schedule in the E.L., Erie will be the Curve's most common opponent in 2009. In 2008, Altoona sported an 11-7 record against the SeaWolves...So far this season, Altoona is 1-6 against the Howlers.

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER: With last night's victory over Erie, the Altoona Curve became the last team in professional baseball to garner a victory.

WHO'S HOT? WHO'S NOT? Jonel Pacheco has reached base safely in eight-straight games...RHP Mike Crotta is 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA in two starts (11.1 ip, 11k's)...Catcher Steve Lerud has just one hit in his last 11 at-bats (.091)

TOUGH OUT: The Altoona Curve bats have the early signs of being a tough out for opposing Eastern League hitters. The Curve have only struck out 49 times as a team, which is the fewest in the Eastern League.

POWER OUTAGE FIXED: Jonel Pacheco's home runs in the bottom of the eighth inning in yesterday's game was Altoona's first home run since Jamie Romak homered on Monday. The Curve have hit four home runs this year as a team. Surprisingly, that ranks in the middle of the pack in the Eastern League. The Trenton Thunder have yet to hit a long ball this season.

BULL OF A PEN: Over the last four games, Altoona's bullpen has been called to duty often. They have come through, tossing 23.0 innings over that span, allowing just five earned runs (1.96 ERA).
