Curve Take Second Straight

ALTOONA, PA - Altoona picked up its second win in as many days, defeating the Erie SeaWolves in a back and forth contest 6-4 Sunday at Blair County Ballpark.

The Altoona bats stayed hot from last night's win as leadoff man Jim Negrych tripled then scored on a single by Jose Tabata.

Erie would answer in the second when first baseman Ryan Strieby doubled and then scored on a fielder's choice to tie the game at 1-1.

The Curve would come right back in their half of the second with an RBI single by Angel Gonzalez putting the Curve back in front.

Erie would get even again in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Max Leon.

Altoona would take control in the sixth inning with Brad Corley blasting a solo home run, quickly followed by an RBI triple by third baseman Gonzalez giving the Curve a 4-2 lead. The Curve would then load the bases in the eighth with back to back singles by Pedro Lopez and Corley followed by a walk by catcher Steve Lerud. James Boone would then come through with a clutch single to right field scoring two and extending the Curve lead to 6-3.

Curve starter Daniel Moskos picks up his first win of the season going six inning allowing eight hits, two runs and recording five strikeouts. Curve newcomer Sean Smith picked up the save in his first appearance of 2009

Altoona (2-8) begins a three game series with Reading (6-3) Monday. The Curve will be throwing left hander Tony Watson (0-1, 18.69). For Reading it will be right hander Tyson Brummett (0-1, 3.60)

First pitch is scheduled for 6:35. Gates open at 5:30 for one of the wackier promotions of 2009. "The Long & Short of It" where Curve fans of the complete opposite ends of the spectrum will be recognized. For example, fans who've traveled the farthest vs. fans who have traveled the shortest, the Curve's oldest fan in attendance that night vs. the youngest, tallest vs. shortest, and many others.
