Binghamton Out Powers Portland, Mets Win 4-2

(Binghamton, NY) - 1B Lucas Duda provided the game-winning RBI with a solo homer in the sixth inning and Binghamton's relievers worked 3.2 hitless innings as the B-Mets grabbed the series finale 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. Portland split the 4-game set and will travel to New Britain on Monday night.

Duda's homer snapped a 2-2 tie and came off losing pitcher Chris Province (2-2), who took both losses in the series. LHP Adam Bostick (2-0) and LHP Roydrick Merritt (Save #5) retired all five batters faced to lead the Mets in their 5th win of the year. In the series opener, Bostick got the win and Merritt picked up the save. 3B Shawn Bowman added a pad-run with a solo-blast off RHP Justin Hedrick in the eighth inning.

Portland starter Junichi Tazawa left the game in the fifth inning after a sacrifice fly by C Josh Thole to put the Mets in front 2-1. Tazawa allowed nine baserunners (6 hits and 3 walks) over 4.2 IP and fanned five. Binghamton grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning on LF D.J. Wabick's run-scoring single. Province relieved the righty and allowed just two baserunners (homer and a walk) on three strikeouts.

RHP Ryan Coultas, a former utility infielder for the Mets, allowed his first hit in the fifth inning on a double by LF Aaron Bates. RF Bubba Bell followed with a single and DH Jon Still tied the game with a sacrifice fly. Coultas worked 5.1 IP and left the game after C Mark Wagner's run-scoring single the sixth inning to tie the game at two. Bostick, RHP John Madden and Merritt allowed one baserunner in the final 3.2 IP and that was on a hit-by-pitch to SS Iggy Suarez.

Notes...3B Jorge Jimenez had his hitting streak snapped at 7-games...2B Zach Borowiak played in his first regular season game since September 3, 2007 and went 1-for-3...Borowiak led off the sixth inning with a triple to right field and scored on Wagner's single...Hedrick has allowed a run in all three outings, his former teammate with the Defenders, RHP Dave McKae, made the start for High-A Salem.
