Aerodynamics...

All The Way Jose...CF Jose Constanza was all over the field for the Aeros in their 7-3 victory last night, tying a team season-high with three hits, setting a new season-high with three runs scored, stealing two bases, and making a pair of spectacular running catches in the gaps, the last of which culminated with the Dominican almost knocking over the Chili's billboard in right-center at Prince George's Stadium. Constanza set the tone immediately in the top of the first when he opened the game with a pretty drag bunt up the first base line, and would later reach on another bunt in the sixth (on what was supposed to be a sacrifice) before beating out an infield single in the eighth. Constanza's biggest contributions to the win may have come in the field however, as he robbed Bowie's Melvin Dorta of extra-bases leading off the fourth (the Aeros were down 2-1 at the time), and then tracked down Adam Donchie's drive in the eighth with a runner on second and one out. It was the latter catch that resulted in the Chili's sign having to be reinforced from the back.

Head Games...LF Jerad Head also had a big night at the plate for Akron, going 2-3 with a double and his first home run of the season. Head became the first Aero with two extra-base hits in the same game this year, and also set a new season-high for the club with six total bases. Head's home run came on the first pitch of the eighth inning and restored a two-run cushion for the Aeros after Bowie had cut the margin to a single run in the bottom of the seventh.

The Heart of the Matter...1B Beau Mills and DH Carlos Santana showed why they might be the most dangerous three and four hitters in the Eastern League last night, with Mills collecting two hits and three RBI and Santana homering for the second straight game. Mills got Akron on the board with an RBI single in the first, and then capped the scoring in the eighth when he spoiled Bowie's lefty-lefty strategy and smoked a two-run double into the right field corner off side-arming reliever Ryan Rodriguez. Santana's solo home run came as part of the three-run sixth inning, and his four home runs on the year have been comprised of solo, two-run, and three-run shots, plus a grand slam. He's tied with Portland's Josh Reddick for the league lead in homers, and leads the EL with 13 RBI. We here in the Aeros Media Relations Department feel it's a pretty safe bet that Mills and Santana are the only reigning league MVPs hitting back-to-back in the same lineup, with Mills taking home the Carolina League MVP last year and Santana earning the honors across the country for the California League.

Please, Not on a Getaway Day...On this date in 1981 (28 years ago today), Rochester and Pawtucket played to a 2-2 tie through 32 innings before play was mercifully suspended at 4:07 a.m. (it was a night game). The game resumed later in the season with Pawtucket winning in 33 innings in what remains the longest game in professional baseball history.
