Big Sixth Paces Rock Cats

New Britain Rock Cats News Release


New Britain, CT - New Britain exploded for 11 runs in the sixth inning to stomp the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 12-2 on Sunday afternoon.

The Rock Cats were held hitless through the first five innings, but broke through in the fifth with an RBI single by Brian Dinkelman that knocked in Matt Moses to put the Rock Cats on the board, 2-1.

In the sixth, the Rock Cats broke out the bats with eight hits against four different pitchers. Danny Valencia started the inning off by reaching on a walk and Erik Lis (3-for-5) followed with a single. Whitney Robbins' triple to right field scored both runners and put the Rock Cats on top for the first time all game. Allan de San Miguel delivered a two-run single and Dinkleman added an RBI single. With two outs, Valencia came to the plate again and drew another walk. Lis followed his second single of the inning - this time scoring de San Miguel - and Robbins added an RBI single. Matt Moses came through with a two-run double, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a double by Rene Tosoni to cap off the 11-run inning.

Jeff Manship struggled with control from the first inning, when he walked two batters. Leadoff man Todd Donovan, who drew a walk to open the game, stole third with David Cooper on first and a throwing error by de San Miguel from behind the plate allowed Cooper to move up to second. Donovan scored on a ground out to put the Fisher Cats ahead, 1-0.

The Fisher Cats scored again in the fourth when Luis Sanchez grounded into a double play that scored Nick Gorneault, who had reached on a leadoff double, from third.

Manship settled down to finish with two runs on four hits and three walks in five innings. He came away with the no-decision. Robert Delaney (1-1) picked up the win with two shutout innings in which he allowed three hits and no walks. Jose Lugo added two scoreless innings in relief in which he allowed just one hit.

Rei Gonzalez limited the Rock Cats to one hit and two runs - one earned - in five innings. He walked four and struck out four. Rommie Lewis (0-2) suffered the loss for New Hampshire.
