New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
New Britain, CT- Todd Donovan went 2-for-4 with a walk, two stolen bases and a run scored, but the New Hampshire Fisher Cats saw their four-game winning snapped on Sunday afternoon with a 12-2 setback against the New Britain Rock Cats.
The Rock Cats (3-8) blew the game wide open in the bottom of the sixth inning when they sent 16 men to the plate, scoring 11 runs on eight hits, three walks and an error against four different Fisher Cats' pitchers. Whit Robbins (2-for-4, 3B, BB, 3 RBI, 2 R) had a two-run triple and an RBI single in the uprising; Matt Moses (1-for-4, 2B, BB, 3 R) hit a two-run double, walked and scored twice in the frame; Erik Lis (3-for-5, 2 RBI, 2 R), Brian Dinkelman (2-for-5, 2 RBI, R) and Allan de San Miguel (1-for-5, RBI, R) all hit run-scoring singles and Rene Tosoni (2-for-4, 2 2B, HBP, RBI, R) drove in another run with a double.
New Hampshire (7-4) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning without the benefit of a hit. New Britain starter Jeff Manship walked Donovan (2-for-4, BB, 2 SB, R) and David Cooper (1-for-3, BB). Donovan stole third base and came home on Brian Dopirak's ground out.
The Fisher Cats bumped the lead to 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning. Nick Gorneault (1-for-4, 2B, R), celebrating his 30th birthday, doubled off the wall in centerfield and came around to score on Luis Sanchez's double-play ground out.
New Britain got one back in the home half of the fifth inning, scoring an unearned run off New Hampshire starter Rei Gonzalez (5+, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 H, 4 BB, 4 K). Matt Moses reached on Sanchez's fielding error and later scored on Brian Dinkelman's two-out single up the middle, the only hit allowed by Gonzalez in five-plus innings.
Rob Delaney (1-1) pitched two shutout innings of relief to earn the victory for New Britain, which salvaged the finale of the four-game series.
Rommie Lewis (0-2) gave up four runs on two hits, a walk and a hit batter without retiring a batter to suffer the loss.
After winning three out of four against the Rock Cats, the Fisher Cats' first road trip of the season shifts to Norwich, CT, for a three-game series against the Connecticut Defenders at Dodd Stadium. On Monday night, left-hander Fabio Castro (1-0, 0.00) takes the mound for New Hampshire against Connecticut right-hander Brooks McNiven (0-0, 1.04) at 6:35pm.
