West Sacramento, Calif. - The Sacramento River Cats (36-46) could not overcome a four-run first inning, having their season-high five game winning streak snapped by the El Paso Chihuahuas (33-47) on Sunday.

In his first start for Sacramento, veteran right-hander Matt Shoemaker (0-1) was tagged for four runs in the first inning, three coming on catcher Luis Campusano's three-run home run. Shoemaker settled in after the hiccup, finishing with 10 ground outs and just one additional earned run over his 5.0 innings.

Rehabbing San Francisco third baseman Evan Longoria went 1-for-4, knocking in the River Cats' first run with an RBI single to right field in the third inning. In three rehab games, Longoria has made a few good plays in the field and is 2-for-10 with three RBIs.

Sacramento cut the Chihuahuas' lead to 5-2 in the fourth when first baseman Joe McCarthy plated right fielder Jaylin Davis with a sacrifice fly. Davis and second baseman Jason Krizan both went 2-for-4.

Shortstop Arismendy Alcántara provided late fireworks with a solo home run off right-hander Parker Markel in the ninth inning to make it 6-3, but Markel was able to get the next two batters to close out the streak-snapping victory. Alcántara is second on the River Cats with 14 home runs, trailing McCarthy's 15.

Right-hander Sean Hjelle, the Giants' No. 10 prospect on MLB Pipeline, will make his Triple-A debut on Monday, taking on an El Paso TBD at 7:05 p.m. (PT). Listen to Johnny Doskow call the game live online at rivercats.com or on the MiLB First Pitch app.

Additional Notes

Sacramento pitchers struck out just two El Paso hitters, while the River Cats' batters struck out 12 times and walked once.

The defeat delayed the River Cats from taking their first series since May 13-18 at Oklahoma City.
