Tacoma Rainiers News Release
TACOMA, Wash. -- Home runs hit by Jesus Montero and Patrick Kivlehan proved to not be enough for the Tacoma Rainiers to avoid a 5-3 loss to the Albuquerque Isotopes at Cheney Stadium on Wednesday night.
Kyle Parker's two-run home run sent the Rainiers to an early 2-0 deficit before Tacoma countered with a run in the second. First baseman Jesus Montero belted a solo shot with one out - his third of the season - to cut Albuquerque's lead in half.
The Isotopes advantage ballooned to 5-1 after the Rainiers surrendered three more runs over the next two frames. Dustin Garneau delivered a two-run double in the third inning before Brandon Barnes hit a two-out solo home run in the fourth.
Patrick Kivlehan brought the Rainiers within two runs after hitting his team-leading fourth home run of the season in the seventh, and infielder Ketel Marte led a brief rally attempt with an RBI single in the eighth inning.
Starter Mike Kickham (0-2) surrendered four runs on two hits and five walks in his third start this season. Reliever Justin Germano allowed one run on one hit and struck out three through a season-high 4.1 innings of work, and left-hander Lucas Luetge closed out the game allowing one hit over 2.0 scoreless frames.
The Rainiers (4-10) look to secure a win in the third game of the team's four-game series with Albuquerque (9-6) tomorrow, April 22. Left-hander Mike Montgomery (0-1, 6.23) is expected to start for Tacoma against left-hander Chris Rusin (1-0, 9.00). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
