Salt Lake Bees News Release
SALT LAKE CITY (April 23, 2015)- Utah Jazz forward Trevor Booker will throw out the 'first pitch' and Emmy Award-winning actor Rob Reiner will make the 'first swing' in separate ceremonies prior to the Salt Lake Bees game on Thursday, April 23. Pre-game festivities will occur on the field at 6:20 p.m. at Smith's Ballpark.
Reiner, who is in Salt Lake City to film a movie, is adding a twist to the baseball tradition as he bats against actor Nick Robinson. Reiner will also sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the seventh-inning stretch of the Bees-Fresno Grizzlies game.
Reiner earned two Emmy Awards for his role as Michael Stivic, son-in-law of Archie and Edith Bunker from the hit television series All in the Family during the 1970s. As a director, Reiner earned Directors Guild of America nominations for Stand by Me (1986), When Harry Met Sally (1989) and A Few Good Men (1992).
Robinson is best known for his role as Ryder Scanlon on the television series Melissa & Joey and was also the star of Kings of Summer (2013). This summer Robinson can be seen in the upcoming adventure sequel Jurassic World.
Booker, a 6-8, 230-pound forward, just completed his first season with the Jazz and fifth season in the NBA. He played in 79 of the team's 82 games, averaging 7.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. Booker scored a career-high 36 points when the Jazz defeated Portland earlier this month.
The Bees homestand concludes on April 24 with Beard Appreciation Night. The team will honor former pitcher and 2014 American League Rookie of the Year runner-up Matt Shoemaker with a Shoemaker beard beanie presented by Diamond Airport Parking to the first 2,000 fans through the gates. The Bees will also be giving away a $200 cash prize to the fan with the best beard as judged by the Bees Instagram followers.
