
Alaska's Schwarz Named Rbk Hockey Goalie Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Alaska's Marek
Schwarz is the Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Feb.
18-24.
The Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic native was 4-0-0 with three shootout
wins, a 2.12 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage in four games
to help the Aces extend their winning streak to seven games and move to
within two points of third place in the West Division.
After stopping 27 shots in a 4-3 win at Fresno on Feb. 19, Schwarz made 25
saves and then stopped five of seven shooters in the shootout for a 2-1 win
against National Conference leader Las Vegas on Feb. 22. He returned the
next night against the Wranglers and had 26 saves before stopping two of
four shooters in the shootout for a 4-3 win. The following night, starting
his third game in three days, the 21 year old stopped 24 shots in
regulation and overtime before turning aside five of seven in the shootout
for a 3-2 win over Las Vegas on Feb. 24.
Drafted in the first round (17th overall) by St. Louis in the 2004 National
Hockey League Entry Draft and under NHL contract to the Blues, the 6-foot
and 180-pound netminder is 6-0-0 with a 2.08 goals-against average and a
.924 save percentage in six games with the Aces since being reassigned on
Feb. 16 from Peoria in the American Hockey League where he is 9-10-2 with a
2.57 goals-against average and a .891 save percentage in 23 games.
He has played two games in the NHL with St. Louis each of his first two
seasons and in 2006-07 he was 19-13-0 with a shutout, a 2.76 goals-against
average and a .899 save percentage in 34 games with Peoria.
