Alaska Aces News Release

DULUTH, Ga. – The Gwinnett Gladiators scored twice in less than two and a half minutes to start Tuesday's game and never looked back in an eventual 5-0 whitewash of Alaska before 3,772 in the Arena at Gwinnett Center.

The general tone of the contest was established early, as Wes Swinson scored just 37 seconds into the game to give Gwinnett a 1-0 lead. The Gladiators also converted their first two power play opportunities, Anthony Aquino's 26th goal of the year at 2:25, and Joe Bourne's fourth of the season with just 2:23 left in the first period. Gwinnett outshot Alaska 21-11 in the opening 20 minutes and held the Aces to just three shots on goal in the second period.

Jim Jackson rifled a slapshot from the point past Aces starter Dan Murphy at 3:40 of the final frame, leaving the outcome no longer in doubt. Kevin Doell, who had assisted on two of the Gladiators' three first period goals, tallied this 28th of the year three minutes later to cap the scoring. Trevor Prior recorded 22 saves in posting his second straight shutout. Murphy stopped 36 of 41 shots in absorbing the loss.
