March 23, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Dayton Bombers News Release

The Dayton Bombers, who have won four straight games, have announced that forward Janne Jokila has been named the InGlasCo ECHL Player of the Week for March 15-21 by the ECHL-America's Premier AA Hockey League.

The 21-year-old Jokila scored nine points (three goals, six assists) and was a +5 while helping the Bombers go 4-0-0, their longest winning streak of the season.

Under contract to Syracuse of the American Hockey League, Jokila has a season-high, six-game scoring streak (four goals, seven assists) and has scored a goal in four of his last five games.

Selected in the seventh round (200th overall) by Columbus in the 2000 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Jokila scored a goal, assisted on the game-winning goal and had three points (one goal, two assists) as the Bombers beat the Cincinnati Cyclones 5-2 on March 17 at their St. Patrick's Day Bash. He had an assist and scored in the shootout as the Bombers beat ECHL leader Wheeling 3-2 in a shootout on March 19 at their Ultimate Sports Bar Night. Jokila tied his season best with three assists, including a helper on the game winner, and had a season-high four points in an 8-3 win against Toledo on March 20 at the Bombers' first-ever Bike Night, and scored the first goal in the Bombers' 5-1 win at Johnstown on March 21.

Jokila attended training camp with the Blue Jackets and began the season with Syracuse, appearing in six games before being assigned to the Bombers.

In his first professional season in North America, Jokila ranks fourth on the team with 16 goals, 21 assists and 37 points in 64 games. He has tied his career high for goals and needs only one assist and one point to tie his career bests.

Jokila played for River City in the United States Hockey League in 2002-03 scoring 38 points (16 goals-22 assists) in 52 games. He also played two seasons in the Finnish Elite League (2000-2002).

On behalf of Janne Jokila, a case of pucks will be donated to a Dayton area youth hockey organization by InGlasCo.

Goalie Andrew Penner also made an impression during a solid team week and was named runner-up for the ECHL ITECH HOCKEY ECHL Saver of the Week Award. He went 3-0 with a 2.07 goals-against average and a .937 save-percentage during the team's 4-0 run.

The Dayton Bombers will welcome Nancy Cartwright, the voice of Bart Simpson, to their game on Sunday, March 28 (6:00 p.m.) at the Ervin J. Nutter Center after a pair of road tilts Friday and Saturday at Peoria against the Rivermen. Both of the road games can be heard on WUDR 99.5 FM or on www.daytonbombers.com (8:05 p.m. game time/ 7:50 p.m. broadcast times).

On Sunday, the Bombers will gladly share the evening with Kettering native Cartwright, who is visiting Dayton to help raise money for two local charities, Project Read and The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Ohio. Cartwright's book, "My Life As A 10-Year Old Boy," will be for sale at the Dayton Bombers' game, and she will be available to autograph books (no memorabilia) for fans attending the game. Cartwright will be involved in substantial fan and Make-A-Wish children interaction activities inside the arena. The Bombers will donate $1 from each walk-up ticket to The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Ohio.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early for game night, purchase a ticket at the box office, and participate in pre-event activities. In addition, both Cartwright and Books & Co. will donate a portion of their proceeds from on-site book sales to Project Read.

The Bombers will also be having face painters, balloon animals, and a Moonwalk Inflatable on the Nutter Center concourse to augment Kids' Silly Sunday activities. Also, the folks from Supercuts will be offering $5 Haircuts with proceeds benefiting Clips-For-a-Cure. And, at another Big Mac Power Play Pack game, fans can receive Two Silver Game Tickets, Two Big Macs, and Two Bombers' Hats for just $25.

To purchase tickets for all Nutter Center Bombers' home games, contact the Bombers' office at (937) 775-4747, log onto www.daytonbombers.com, or visit the Nutter Center Box Office. To purchase Bombers' Merchandise or reap the benefits of Bombers' 2004-2005 Season Tickets, call (937) 775-4747.
