Tibbetts Sent To Houston

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Gulls announced Tuesday that Billy Tibbetts has been loaned to the American Hockey League's Houston Aeros. The Gulls also announced the signing of forward Darren Partch. Per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Tibbetts has played 40 games with the Gulls this season, accumulating 53 points (18g, 35a) and a team-leading 266 penalty minutes. He leads the club, scoring 1.3 points per game.

This is Tibbetts' second call-up to the AHL this season. In January, he spent six games with the Springfield Falcons, posting two assists and 25 penalty minutes.

The 6-foot-1-inch, 210-pound native of Boston came to San Diego after spending the last three seasons splitting time in the NHL and AHL. Last season he played 11 games for the NHL's New York Rangers, tallying no points and 12 penalty minutes. He also played 35 games for the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, notching 17 points (7g, 10a) and 172 penalty minutes.

Tibbetts, 29, has played 82 career games in the NHL, tallying 10 points (2g, 8a) and 269 penalty minutes. No date has been set on Tibbetts' return to San Diego, but he is eligible to go on the playoff roster.

Partch comes to the Gulls after splitting time with the Long Beach Ice Dogs and Las Vegas Wranglers this season. In 49 combined games with Long Beach and Las Vegas, the rookie forward has scored 23 points (14g, 9a) while amassing 16 penalty minutes. Partch also played six games with the Central Hockey League's Lubbock Cotton Kings this season.

Prior to this year, the 6-foot-1-inch, 175-pound native of Agoura Hills, Calif. played two seasons at Pittsburgh State University.
