Jokila Named InGlasCo ECHL Player of the Week
March 23, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release
PRINCETON, N.J. - Dayton left wing Janne Jokila is the InGlasCo
ECHL Player of the Week for March 15-21.
The 21-year-old Jokila scored nine points (3g-6a) and was +5 while helping
Dayton go 4-0-0, the longest winning streak of the season for the Bombers
who improved to 25-37-5. Under contract to Syracuse of the American Hockey
League, Jokila has a season-high six-game scoring streak (4g-7a) and has
scored a goal in four of his last five games.
Selected in the seventh round (200th overall) by Columbus in the 2000
National Hockey League Entry Draft, Jokila scored a goal, assisted on the
game-winning goal and had three points (1g-2a) as Dayton beat Cincinnati
5-2 on March 17. He had an assist and scored in the shootout as Dayton beat
ECHL leader Wheeling 3-2 in a shootout on March 19. Jokila tied his season
best with three assists, including a helper on the game winner, and had a
season-high four points in an 8-3 win against Toledo on March 20, and
scored the first goal in the Bombers 5-1 win at Johnstown on March 21.
Jokila attended training camp with the Blue Jackets and began the season
with Syracuse, appearing in six games before being assigned to Dayton. In
his first professional season in North America, Jokila ranks fourth on the
team with 16 goals, 21 assists and 37 points in 64 games. He has tied his
career high for goals and needs only one assist and one point to tie his
career bests.
Jokila played for River City in the United States Hockey League in 2002-03
scoring 38 points (16g-22a) in 52 games. He played two seasons in the
Finnish Elite League scoring three points (1g-2a) in 40 games with Lukko
Rauma in 2001-02. In 2000-01, Jokila scored two points (1g-1a) in 10 games
before having his season ended with a broken ankle.
On behalf of Janne Jokila, a case of pucks will be donated to a Dayton
area youth hockey organization by InGlasCo.
