Akron Pitching Holds Erie Down on Saturday Night

The SeaWolves could not turn around their recent losing streak on Saturday night in front of a packed house of 5,421 fans at Jerry Uht Park as Erie fell to Akron 7-1.

Erie struck first in the bottom of the first inning against Akron starter Austin Adams. Gustavo Nunez led off with a single and moved to second on a stolen base. Justin Henry doubled off the wall in right, plating Nunez for a 1-0 Erie lead.

Akron responded in the next half inning against Erie starter Casey Crosby. Ben Copeland led off with a double. Kyle Bellows followed and reached on a Francisco Martinez error. The error allowed Copeland to score from second, tying the game. With one out, John Drennen was hit by a pitch putting two on. With two outs, Jordan Henry singled home Bellows giving Akron a 2-1 edge. Juan Diaz walked loading the bases and Matt McBride walked with the bags full, scoring Drennen, making it 3-1 Aeros.

In the third, Chun Chen homered to the opposite field off of Crosby for a 4-1 Akron edge.

In the fourth, the Aeros continued to tack on to the lead. Karexon Sanchez and Henry connected on consecutive singles. McBride singled home Sanchez for a 5-1 Akron lead. With two outs, Copeland doubled home Henry and McBride for a 7-1 Akron advantage.

Crosby was lifted in the fourth for reliever Rob Waite who kept the Aeros at bay over the final 5.1 innings, allowing just three hits with a walk and four strikeouts.

The SeaWolves could not get the offense going as the Aeros pitching staff held Erie hitless over the final 4.2 innings.

The SeaWolves will look to snap a five-game losing streak on Sunday afternoon at Jerry Uht Park...1:05 First Pitch. LHP Jay Voss (5-5, 4.21 ERA) takes the mound for the SeaWolves against LHP Matt Packer (4-9, 5.04 ERA).
