Trenton Thunder News Release
(Bowie, MD) - The Bowie Baysox (54-43) used a three-run fifth inning on Friday night to ease past the Trenton Thunder (52-47) 4-1 in Bowie, Maryland. In game two of a four-game set, Rob Lyerly drove in the only Thunder run with his double in the first inning. L.J. Hoes drove in three of Bowie's four runs as the Baysox improved their July record to 16-4.
The only Thunder offense on Friday night came in the top of the first inning. Corban Joseph doubled with one out, then was driven home on a Rob Lyerly double to the gap in the left-centerfield. The RBI-double was Lyerly's second in as many nights, bringing his RBI total to 16 since being promoted from Tampa to Trenton in late June.
The Baysox immediately tied the score at one apiece on a L.J. Hoes' RBI-single in the bottom of the first. Hoes then keyed a three-run rally in the bottom of the fifth inning with his two-run double down the line in left field.
The loss marks the tenth straight for the Thunder on the road. In all ten losses, the Thunder have held a lead in the game. The last Thunder road win came on Sunday, June 26, when Dellin Betances dominated the New Britain Rock Cats.
The Thunder will continue their seven-game road swing to Bowie, Maryland and Akron, Ohio with game three of a four game set with the Baysox at 6:35 PM on Saturday night from Prince George's Stadium. The Yankees' top pitching prospect, RHP Dellin Betances (4-4, 2.90), will get the nod for the Thunder, while Bowie will counter with Tim Bascom (6-2, 2.93). The SBLI Pre-Game show with Hank Fuerst begins at 6:20 PM. Tune-in to the game on 91.3 WTSR and trentonthunder.com.
