Trenton Thunder News Release
(Bowie, MD) - Rob Lyerly had two hits, including a homerun on his twenty-fourth birthday, but the Trenton Thunder (52-48) dropped a 6-4 contest to the Bowie Baysox (55-43) on Saturday at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, Maryland. In game three of the four-game set, the Thunder were unable to hold onto an early 2-0 lead as the Baysox rallied to win for the 17th time in the month of July.
The Thunder grabbed an early lead with a two-run second inning. With Melky Mesa at first and one out, Zoilo Almonte lined a single to left field that scooted under the glove of Baysox left fielder LJ Hoes, allowing Mesa to score from first base. Later in the inning with two outs and Almonte at third, Damon Sublett lined a single to second base to drive in Almonte and the Thunder led 2-0 after one and a half frames.
After Bowie scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to chase Thunder starter Dellin Betances from the game, the Thunder struck again in the top of the sixth. Celebrating his twenty-fourth birthday, Rob Lyerly led the frame off with a solo homerun to right-centerfield. The homer was Lyerly's third in his one month's time at Double A. Later in the inning, Jose Pirela scored Zoilo Almonte from third base on a sacrifice fly to left to tie the score at 4-4.
However, Bowie scored the final two runs in the game to take Saturday's contest and secure a series win over the Thunder. The loss stretches Trenton's road losing streak to 11 games. In all 11 losses, the Thunder have had a lead at some point in that game.
The Thunder will wrap-up their four-game series with the Bowie Baysox on Sunday evening at 6:05 PM from Prince George's Stadium. Trenton will send LHP Shaeffer Hall (8-4, 4.06) to the mound, while Bowie will counter with RHP Oliver Drake (1-1, 9.37). After the game, the Thunder will head to Akron, Ohio, to take on the Aeros for a three-game set. Sunday's SBLI Pre-game show with Hank Fuerst begins at 5:50 PM. Tune into the game on 91.3 WTSR-FM and on trentonthunder.com.
