Texas AirHogs News Release

LINCOLN, Nebraska - The Lincoln Saltdogs salvaged a series split with the AirHogs Thursday at Haymarket Park behind a complete game, 5-hitter from righty Lindsey Caughel. RF Nick Akins launched his first home run of the season for the AirHogs in the 6-2 loss.

RHP Palmer Betts got the ball to start for the AirHogs. The Adel, Georgia native went 6 innings, walking 7 and surrendering 5 hits and 4 runs. He issued 2 walks and 2 runs in the 1st and then single tallies in the 3rd and 4th.

RHP Lindsey Caughel started for the Saltdogs and came hot out of the gate. He set away 13 in a row to start the game. The AirHogs got to him in the 5th for a run on an RBI infield single by Cody Lenahan. The team had the bases loaded, but a diving play by 2B Pat Kelly on a Michael Hur ground ball started a fielders' choice to end the frame.

RF Nick Akins led off the top of the 7th with his first home run of the season to cut the lead to 2. But 4-2 was as close as the AirHogs would get. The Saltdogs tagged relief man Sam Martin for a pair of run (1 earned) in the bottom of the 7th to put the game out of reach.

The Lincoln side was led offensively by 1B Rene Leveret, who finished with 3 hits, 4 RBI, a walk and a stolen base. Akins scored both of the AirHog runs. 1B Devon Rodriguez picked up his 6th double of the season. The AirHog defense turned its 13th double play of the season in the 7th. Caughel got his 2nd win while Betts suffered his 1st loss.

The AirHogs (6-8) travel to Joplin for a 3-game set starting at 6:35 tomorrow. RHP Matt Shepherd is expected to start Game 1 at Joe Becker Stadium.

A live radio broadcast of the game will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs.
