Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
GARY, IN - The RailCats managed only four hits in a second straight close game with the Kansas City-T-Bones. The T-Bones (7-7) used a two-run homer and good pitching to claim the series lead over the RailCats (6-8) with the 4-3 final score.
Sean Furney recorded the win for Kansas City going 5.0 strong innings giving up three runs but none of them earned. Aaron Baker came in and got the save by pitching a scoreless ninth inning. Richard Castillo (1-1) is charged with the loss for the Cats. He went 5.2 innings giving up four runs on three hits and four walks.
The T-Bones pitching was equally as impressive as the fact they overcame five errors to get the win. All of the RailCats' runs were unearned and came in the first two innings as results of the T-Bones miscues.
Cameron Newell started the bottom of the 1st inning with a walk and advanced to second on a ground ball and throwing error. Brennan Metzger then move the runners up with a sacrifice bunt. The next two batters, Jeremy Hamilton and Jose Sermo, drew walks to push across Newell. Alex Crosby then hit a sacrifice fly to score Masato Fukae and give the Cats the 2-0 lead.
EJ Devarie continued his on-base streak in the second with an infield single. He moved over to second on the hit following a throwing error. Two batters later, Fukae bunted to move Devarie to third, but Furney threw the ball away trying to get Fukae at first. That error scored Devarie to put Gary SouthShore up 3-0.
The Kansas City runs came on a two run homer by Anthony Gallas in the fourth and back-to-back doubles in the sixth. Devarie reached in the ninth to start a rally but was caught stealing.
Karl Triana starts for the RailCats tomorrow as the team bids for a series split with the T-Bones. First pitch is at 7:10 and the action begins on 95.9 WEFM and online at 6:45 PM.
