WICHITA BATS QUIET IN LOSS

The Wichita Wingnuts were held to a season-low tying six hits as they lost 7-1 to the Laredo Lemurs Wednesday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. Starting pitching dominated early, as the game was scoreless heading into the fifth. In that frame, the Lemurs took advantage of a couple of Wichita errors to go in front. With runners on the corners and two outs, J.D. Pulfer singled one run in, while a second came in later on the play on the Wingnuts second error of the inning. Ty Morrison then followed with a run-scoring double to make it 3-0. Laredo then stretched their lead to 5-0 in the next inning when Travis Denker hit a two-run homer, his second long ball of the series. The Lemurs added two more more runs in the ninth, drawing back-to-back based loaded walks. Wichita broke the shutout in the home half of the ninth. Richard Prigatano started the frame with a double, then scored on an RBI single by Brent Dean, the lone Wingnut to have a multi-hit effort in the game. The run kept the Wingnuts from being shutout for the first time since a 9-0 loss at Sioux City on August 28 of last year.

MEDINA TURNS IN BEST START

After struggling mightily in his first two outings, righty Eddie Medina turned in his best outing of the year last night against Laredo. The Staten Island, N.Y., native did not allow a hit until the fourth, and only faced one more than the minimum through his first four frames. He gave up three two-out runs in the fifth, but a pair of errors led to those runs being unearned. The only earned runs the righty allowed came in the sixth on Denker's two-run homer. Medina picked up his first quality start for his efforts, allowing two earned runs on five hits in a season-high seven innings of work.

AMONG THE LEADERS

Harrison Kain owns the top average on the Wingnuts at .391, the third-highest average in the league...T.J. Mittelstaedt leads the American Association in walks once again with 18, and his .500 on-base percentage is tied for tops in the league...Mittelstaedt is also tied for third in the league with five doubles...Starter Tim Brown sits third in the league in innings pitched, having worked 22.0 so far through his first three starts of the season.
