A Look Back... Akron scored three go-ahead runs in the seventh and plated a key insurance run in the bottom of the eighth to claim a 7-6 victory over Harrisburg before 2,304 boisterous fans at Canal Park Wednesday night. The Aeros improved to an Eastern League-best 15-4 while the struggling Senators lost their 11th straight game and fell to 2-15. Scranton-Wilkes Barre blanked Lehigh Valley 7-0 in International League play to keep the best record in professional baseball at 16-3, while Fort Wayne doubled-up Clinton 6-3 in the Class A Midwest League to keep pace with Akron at 15-4. Trailing 5-3 after six innings, DH Beau Mills and C Santana collected back-to-back doubles with one out in the bottom of the seventh to cut the deficit to a run at 5-4. 3B Niuman Romero popped up for the second out, but LF Nick Weglarz cracked an RBI single up the middle to score Santana and tie the game, and after a pair of infield singles loaded the bases 1B Jerad Head dropped an RBI single into center to score Weglarz and put the Aeros back in front at 6-5. Akron added a huge insurance run in the eighth as CF Jose Constanza opened the inning with an infield single and then stole second base, but only after the umpires gathered and overturned the original call of a caught stealing. The extra 90 feet loomed large when Santana ripped a two-out RBI double into the left field corner to make it 7-5, and in fact that proved to be the difference as Harrisburg got a run in the ninth before closer Vinnie Pestano notched the final out. Mills went 3-5 with two doubles and two runs scored to lead the offense, while Santana was 2-3 with a pair of doubles of his own plus three RBI. 2B Josh Rodriguez and RF Mickey Hall also finished with two hits each, although Rodriguez left in the seventh with an apparent hamstring injury of undisclosed severity. Every Akron starter finished with at least one hit as the Aeros collected a season-high 14 on the night, although they also allowed a season-high 19 hits to the Senators.

The Wright Stuff...Newly-minted reliever Steven Wright was terrific in the first relief appearance of his career last night, entering into a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the top of the fifth and calmly getting a strikeout and a groundout to escape unharmed. Wright later got into another bases-loaded, one-out jam in the seventh and once again got a strikeout and a ground ball, and in fact victimized the same two Harrisburg in hitters in both instances with the strikeouts coming against Michael Martinez and the grounders coming off the bat of Mike Daniel. Wright went 2.2 scoreless innings for the win.

Did You Know...Last night marked the first time all season that Beau Mills was not in the lineup at first base, although he did end up there later in the game. Mills had started the first 18 games of the year at first, and was the last Aero to get a day off from the field. Mills did end up playing first in the ninth inning after Rodriguez's injury shuffled the infield.
