
Sea Dogs fall to the Mets 8-3!

(Portland, ME) The Binghamton Mets (10-8) hit two home runs and gave LHP Felix Doubront (2-1) his first Double-A loss, defeating the Portland Sea Dogs 8-3 on Thursday night at Hadlock Field in front of 3,896 fans. The Sea Dogs (9-10) took 2 of 3 from Binghamton and begin a 7-game roadtrip on Friday night in Connecticut against the Defenders.
RHP Ryan Coultas (1-1) earned his first Double-A win, giving up six hits over 5 IP. The righty fanned five and allowed one run on C Juan Apodacas solo-homer to lead-off the fifth inning. Doubront left the game in the fifth inning after a 2-run homer by CF Emmanuel Garcia (3-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, 3 SB), he surrendered seven hits and four runs over 4.1 IP. LHP Roydrick Merritt picked up his 9th save of the season, working the final 1.2 IP.
The Mets received a multi-hit game from five of nine starters and 2 RBI from Garcia and LF Josh Peterson. 2B Jonathan Malo went 2-for-3 with a solo-homer in the third inning to give Binghamton a 2-0 lead. Binghamton scored their first run on 3B Mark Kigers run-scoring single in the second inning. The Mets led 5-0 after Garcias homer in the fifth inning.
In the seventh inning with Portland trailing 5-3, LHP Dustin Richardson relieved RHP Richie Lentz and yielded a 2-run single to Peterson. The Mets added a run in the ninth inning on C Josh Tholes run-scoring single.
Apodaca, SS Argenis Diaz, 3B Jorge Jimenez and DH Jon Still all had two hits for Portland, who finished 1-for-11 with runners-in-scoring position.
Portland opens up a 7-game roadtrip on Friday night at Dodd Stadium against the Connecticut Defenders; game time is 6:35 PM.
