Comeback City...The Aeros pulled off another spectacular comeback last night to come out with a 10-9 win over Bowie, clinching the season series 13-11 over the second-place Baysox. Akron continued its habit of late-inning heroics both on the road and at home, as Bowie led 9-4 going into the bottom of the seventh last night when 3B Wes Hodges stung an RBI double to left to make it 9-5. Akron struck for four more in the eighth to tie the game at 9-9. The rally started with a pair of walks, and C Wyatt Toregas doubled both runners home to cut the deficit to 9-7. A double by 2B Brandon Pinckney put runners on second and third with one down, and Josh Rodriguez walked to load the bases. LF Matt LaPorta then delivered a single to left to score Toregas, but Pinckney was out at home trying to score from second, leaving runners at first and second. Hodges followed with a rope off the wall in left-center to score Rodriguez, but LaPorta was out at the plate when he couldn't knock the ball loose from Bowie's 230-pound catcher Matt Wieters in a violent collision. A single and two walks loaded the bases in the ninth, and after a strikeout Toregas drove a sac fly to left, scoring Head for the walk-off win. RHP Erik Stiller retired all six men he faced in the final two innings to celebrate his birthday in style and pick up his fifth win of the year.

Olympic Selection...Aeros RHP T.J. Burton was selected today to represent Canada in the Olympic Games August 8th-24th in Beijing. The Ottawa, ON native is 1-2 with the Aeros this season with a 4.28 ERA in 26 appearances. The 25-year-old did not allow an earned run in two innings in Olympic qualifiers in March.

Middle Power...With the addition of LF Matt LaPorta, the middle of Akron's order is now highlighted by two of the top RBI men in all of minor league baseball. 3B Wes Hodges leads the Eastern League with 72 RBI after adding three last night to go with his four hits, while LaPorta was second in the Southern League with 66 RBI for the Huntsville Stars before being traded to Cleveland. And when Trevor Crowe returns to the lineup from the disabled list (strained left intercostal muscle), the top seven hitters in Akron's potential batting order could all be first or second round picks: CF Crowe (14th overall, 2005), SS Josh Rodriguez (57th, 2006), LF LaPorta (7th, 2007), 3B Hodges (69th, 2006), RF Bronson Sardinha (31st, 2001), 1B Stephen Head (62nd, 2005), and DH Matt Whitney (33rd, 2002).

Did You Know...Reigning Eastern League Player of the Week C Wyatt Toregas has not singled since June 25th, but is still hitting .343 (12-35) with five doubles, seven home runs, and 22 RBI in 11 games since. Toregas has 13 RBI in his last four games and 25 RBI in 17 games with the Aeros this season, and has also set a career-high with 10 home runs between Class AAA Buffalo and Akron this season.
