Sens beat Baysox in series opener

Harrisburg, PA - The Harrisburg Senators opened a key four-game series in style with a 6-3 win over the Bowie Baysox, Friday at Commerce Bank Park. Luis Jimenez and Johnny Estrada each hit home runs for Harrisburg.

The Baysox got on the board early. Jonathan Tucker led off the game with a double down the left-field line and scored two batters later when Lou Montanez singled to left-center, making it 1-0 Bowie.

The Senators came right back in the bottom of the 1st. William Bergolla and Bill Rhinehart hit back-to-back one-out singles and two batters later, Jimenez deposited a three-run homer to right to give Harrisburg a 3-1 advantage.

Bowie chipped away with single runs in the 3rd and 4th. Tucker led off the 3rd with a double and scored two batters later when Montanez hit a sacrifice fly to cut it to 3-2. In the 4th, Travis Brown drew a two-out walk and Tucker drove him in with a double to tie it at 3-3.

It didn't stay that way long. Estrada blasted a solo homer to right to lead off the bottom of the 4th. Marvin Lowrance drew a two-out walk and scored on Seth Bynum's RBI single to center to make it 5-3.

The Senators tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the 5th. Bergolla ripped a leadoff double and scored when Estrada ripped a one-out RBI single to right to extend the advantage to 6-3.

LHP Justin Jones picked up a win, going five innings to move to 1-0 for Harrisburg. RHP Brad Bergesen absorbed the loss to fall to 10-3. RHP Adam Carr notched his 6th save of the year with two scoreless innings.

The Senators improved to 51-41. The Baysox dipped to 53-41.

The Senators and Baysox continue the four-game series Saturday at Commerce Bank Park in a 6:05 PM start. RHP Craig Stammen (1-1, 2.13 ERA) starts for Harrisburg against Bowie RHP David Hernandez (5-1, 2.70 ERA).
