Aerodynamics...

Too Much, Too Soon...The Aeros were able to recover from one four-run deficit last night, but the second proved to be too steep a hill to climb as Harrisburg pounded out a 13-6 win in the opener of this four-game series. The 13 runs were the most allowed by Akron pitching this year, the 14 hits tied a season-high for an opponent, and the seven-run margin was the most lopsided loss the Aeros have suffered this year. Akron did itself no favors either, committing a season-high three errors and tying a season-high by stranding 11 runners on base.

Silver Lining...There were some bright spots for Akron last night, specifically from the offense. After struggling to score a total of five runs on 13 hits in three games in Altoona, the Aeros broke out for six runs and 14 hits last night. SS Josh Rodriguez and CF Jose Constanza both collected three hits, while 1B Michael Aubrey and C Chris Gimenez contributed two knocks apiece. The latter two have basically hit all year, but it was an encouraging sight regarding Rodriguez and Constanza. Rodriguez was hitting just .154 after 13 games, but has gone 8-18 (a .444 average) with two doubles and a homer over his last five games, including a pair of three-hit performances, to raise his average 75 points to .229 entering play tonight. Constanza, who began the season in a wretched 0-19 slump and was hitting just .089 (4-45) heading into the last road trip, is hitting .400 (8-20) over his last six games with three runs scored and three RBI. The increased hits haven't led to more running opportunities for Constanza however; he hasn't even attempted to steal a base since Opening Night in Harrisburg after swiping 39 bags for Kinston last year.

They've Got Our Number...The Senators are currently second in the Eastern League with a .277 team batting average so it's not like they're solely picking on the Akron pitching staff, but they sure do enjoy facing the Aeros. Harrisburg is hitting .315 as a team off Akron pitching, and hasn't scored less than eight runs in any of the four games between the teams this year. The Senators have also drawn a whopping 26 walks in those four contests and have a team OBP of .415. The Aeros have also had their share of success at the plate, scoring 29 runs and hitting .291 as a team against Harrisburg pitching. 3B Wes Hodges has dome the most damage against the Senators, hitting .389 (7-18) with a home run and four RBI.

Did You Know...C Chris Gimenez was called for catcher's interference in the top of the third inning last night, and said it was the first time he's ever been called for that in his career. Gimenez began catching full-time in 2006 while with Lake County after spending the bulk of his first two seasons in the corner infield and outfield spots.
