New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Manchester, NH- Jacob Butler drove in Travis Snider with a two-out, two-strike RBI double off the centerfield wall in the bottom of the ninth inning to prevent a shutout as the Bowie Baysox defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 8-1, before a crowd of 4,368 Friday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.

Bowie right-hander Brad Bergesen was masterful in his Eastern League debut, scattering three hits -all singles- in seven scoreless innings. Bergesen (1-0) struck out four and did not walk a batter in helping Bowie (11-10) win its fourth straight game, moving above the .500 mark for the first time this season.

Right-hander Kam Mickolio struck out five batters over two innings of relief to close it out, but he ran into trouble with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Snider (1-for-4, R) blooped a single to left-centerfield and Butler (1-for-4, 2B, RBI) lined a payoff pitch off the wall in centerfield, scoring Snider and preventing New Hampshire (5-15) from being blanked.

The Baysox took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning against New Hampshire left-hander A.J. Wideman (0-1) when Jonathan Tucker (2-for-4, R, SB) singled, stole second base and advanced when catcher Brian Jeroloman's throw went into centerfield. Carlos Rojas (2-for-5, RBI, R) followed with a run-scoring single, making it 1-0. Ben Davis (2-for-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI, R) added a two-run double to the left-centerfield gap, plating Rojas and Jeff Nettles (walk) for a 3-0 lead.

Wideman settled down from there, allowing only those three runs in a season-high 6.2 innings. He yielded seven hits and walked one, notching four strikeouts.

Bowie blew it open by scoring four runs off reliever Kyle Yates (0.1 IP) and one unearned run off Mike Gallo (1.0 IP) in the top of the eighth inning. Davis looped an RBI double off Yates, scoring Lou Montanez (2-for-4, BB, R), who had walked. Travis Brown (1-for-4, RBI, BB) added a fielder's choice grounder, Blake Davis (1-for-5, 3B, 2 RBI, R) lined a two-run triple and scored on a Chris Gutierrez fielding error.

The Fisher Cats look to snap a two-game skid when they send right-hander Scott Richmond (2-2, 4.57) to the mound against Baysox righty David Hernandez (1-0, 2.70) Saturday afternoon at 1:05pm. Radio coverage begins at 12:45pm with Bob Lipman and Mike Murphy on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.
