Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

A three-run sixth put the Binghamton Mets ahead, but the Portland Sea Dogs scored the game's final three runs for a 6-4 win over the B-Mets at Hadlock Field Friday. The loss is Binghamton's third in their last four games.

Portland (14-7) jumped ahead in the first on back-to-back homers off Jose Sanchez. Jeff Corsaletti hit a two-run shot before Sandy Madera followed with a solo blast to make it 3-0 Portland. Sanchez would settle down, retiring 14 of 15 through the fifth.

Binghamton (10-12) got on the board in the fifth, when Jose Coronado walked, moved to second on Fernando Martinez's double and scored on Daniel Murphy's sacrifice fly.

The B-Mets kept the pressure on in the sixth, when Mike Carp led off the frame with a solo homer off Matt Goodson to pull Binghamton within a run before Salomon Manriquez tripled. Jose Vaquedano replaced Goodson and gave up a sacrifice fly to Coronado that scored Manriquez with the tying run. Vaquedano (4-0) then issued a two-out walk to Jonathan Malo, who would score thanks to two Portland errors, one on a pickoff attempt and another on a booted ground ball hit by Martinez, giving the B-Mets a 4-3 advantage.

That lead was short-lived, as Sanchez's second pitch in the bottom of the sixth was taken out of the park by Madera for his second homer of the game. Bubba Bell added a go-ahead two-run shot off Eddie Camacho (1-2) in the seventh.

Portland's Beau Vaughan struck out the side in the ninth for his third save in four chances.

Saturday, the B-Mets play the third game of a four-game series against the Portland Sea Dogs. Bobby Parnell (0-1, 5.89) will start for Binghamton against Michael Bowden (0-2, 4.91) of Portland. The first pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m. at Hadlock Field with the radio broadcast beginning at 12:45 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.

Notes: B-Mets manager Mako Oliveras and hitting coach Luis Natera were ejected by home plate umpire Johnny Conrad in the top of the second for arguing a foul-tipped third strike call against Manriquez...Carp's homer is Binghamton's second in their last eight games and first since Ambiorix Concepcion went deep Sun. vs. POR...seven of POR's 13 homers have been against the B-Mets...POR committed five errors, leading to one unearned run.
